They determined that levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D between 50 and 100 nmol/L (equivalent to 20 and 40 ng/mL) were associated with the lowest risks of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and acute myocardial mortality, with the lowest risk at 70 nmol/L (28 ng/mL).

It’s like a new phenomenon.
I suffer from low D levels myself (about 10 or 15). It was first discovered when my depression was at an all time low in 2014. Vitamin D2 high doses (50,000)for (4 weeks) and a low dose 10mg. Prozac was prescribed. I started to feel like my normal outgoing energetic self in about a week. Within three months I was off the prozac my mood was transformed to 100% turn around.
Now again I’m finding my annual bloodwork is showing low D levels 15-19.
This is concerning. I’m not feeling depressed but I’m not motivated, not energetic, my teeth and gums feel some weakness.
I’m taking 2000 IU D3 doctors recommendation.
My question is why is my body not absorbing and storing Vitamin D?
Vitamin D is a fat soluble vitamin. It stores in the body. I do have extra weight on, say 20 pounds. I’m thinking this may be the problem, as I’ve heard it can store in the fat and not be readily available in the cells.
Also, I have read if you tan easily (more melanin) you do not absorb D as well, interesting fact.
I think I do better on D2 supplements because I don’t notice loose stools symptoms like I do with D3 oil capsules. I think the loose stools may be showing my lack of ability to absorb. Last blood test I was still under 19.
Mind you I was only taking one 1000IU vit D capsule at the time and sporadically at that due to loose stools concerns.
Now my question is should I take the D2 which is synthetic as opposed to the D3 which is a natural derivative, which I like to go the natural way but it just doesn’t seem to be the best alternative for me.
Maybe the drops are a better options?
My naturalpath prescribed drops, but after three months I only came from 15 to 19.
The solution is definitely to continue using some vitamin D supplement and look for sources of vitamin D in foods. Salmon is good.

I was taken off Vit D in 2015 when another doctor tested me an my level was 48. This time my level was 15 I got those results 2 days ago and I was put on 50,000 IU of D2 once a week he said once my levels come back into normal range I will be switched over to D3 he said that D3 is best for keeping levels stable, D2 is suppose to bring your levels up faster. I have another suggestion for you, if you are still having problems with falling asleep after your levels come up I would suggest getting a sleep study done, I was diagnosed out of the blue with Narcolepsy in 2016, never ever had any issues with falling asleep at a drop of a dime other than when when my Vit D levels were low so it made no sense to me, I went in for a sleep study and found I have Narcolepsy.

So the dr called me in a prescription. Some signs were I would feel so tired after just waking up after a full nights sleep. I had what felt like pulled muscles in my legs, back, neck, shoulders. My hair was falling out in clumps. So glad I have this figured out. I had no idea lack of vitamin d could make you feel so terrible.

Every time I tried to reduce my high Vit D dosage, the brain fog would come back. In fact it nearly ruined our vacation. Since we were going to a tropical beach, I decided to stop taking the D. At first we assumed I had jet lag. Then, just tired. Then, “coming down with a cold.” My brain slowed down, and my bones ached. I was so miserable and no fun, just couldn’t think straight. Two days before we were to leave I decided, Why not, and I took my massive dose of 50,000 IU of the Vit D. And within hours it was like a shot of adrenalin. I could think, talk, and stay awake! We had the best two days of vacation. I finally put two and two together, I have probably suffered from this throughout much of my adult life. It is really sad when I think about it.
I wish you the best in clearing up this annoying condition. BTW when I added calcium, magnesium, and Vit K-2, I was finally able to cut my dosage with no recurrence of pain or brain fog, so I recommend heeding the advice of others who suggest that combination.

I had my vit D tested and it is 26. Doctor said low vit D can cause brain fog. Have you ever heard of low d levels causing brain fog? I started taking 2000 iu/day but I decided to start taking 5000. Question: is it better to take your daily dose of vitamin d all at once or spread it out Over the course of the day? Thanks!!
